CUA to Surprise Students with Cash

#10Kinaday planned for September 5th

Halifax, N.S. – Going to college or university is not only an investment in one’s future, it’s a lesson in personal finance.  Tuition, books and everyday necessities can add up.  To help ease the financial stress and generate additional excitement about getting back to class, CUA is planning to surprise some lucky post-secondary students.

For the second year in a row, CUA will host #10Kinaday.  On September 5, 2019 a total of $10,000 will be randomly distributed to several fortunate students at college and university campuses in Halifax.  Throughout the day, CUA will surprise students waiting in line to pay for tuition, books and school supplies.  Additional prizes will be drawn from ballots collected throughout the day.

According to the Canadian Federation of Students, the average debt for university graduates is close to $30,000 and, according to Marie Mullally, CUA’s President and CEO, small changes can have a big impact on a student’s future purchasing power.  “Many students wait until they’re making money to get advice on managing money – and debt,” she says.  “This is an exciting way for our team to help students and encourage them to seek advice on money matters long before they cross the stage for graduation.”

Students can enter to win by texting STUDENT to 11011 or by following CUA on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to find out the day’s schedule.
