The Odufuye Family

Lending a hand to help make Halifax home

Paul and Blessing Odufuye, originally of Nigeria, were working to make Halifax their forever home.  Paul, a veteran Engineer, has been working in Qatar for close to 20 years.  He continues to travel back and forth, supporting his family while doing work he loves.  Blessing, a passionate educator, has transitioned from teaching in Qatar to working in a part-time role with the Halifax Regional School Board.  Together, with their three sons, they have built a foundation on education, hard work and compassion.

With a long-term goal of becoming permanent residents of Canada, the Odufuye family set their sights on a short-term goal of finding a permanent place to call home.  After making an offer on a home they loved, Paul and Blessing were disappointed to learn their options were limited due to their primary income being earned outside of Canada. Despite having an offer from a large bank, they weren’t pleased with the terms or the interest rate.  They decided to step back and consider their options.

A neighbour mentioned CUA to Blessing and, on her way to a session at ISANS one afternoon, she saw the sign “CUA - The better way to bank”.  She decided to take a detour, and was immediately introduced to CUA Financial Advisor, James Webster.

James did what members of the CUA Team do best: apply common sense to a unique situation, provide flexible products and a personal solution, and get answers quickly.  Once James reached out to various agencies in Qatar to confirm employment and credit history, he completed the appropriate checks and paperwork.  Then came the phone call James describes as a highlight of his career – telling Paul and Blessing they were approved for their mortgage.

The Odufuye family received the keys to their new home on August 7, and they couldn’t have been more excited.  James sourced power tools to start the day helping the family disassemble furniture to prepare for the big move.  And when the moving truck pulled up to the curb at their new home, members of the CUA team were there to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand with the move.

Going the extra mile is part of CUA’s DNA, opening the door for those who choose The better way to bank.
