Meet Marie
Marie is the President and CEO of CUA, one of Atlantic Canada’s largest community banking institutions, a position she has held since 2011. She is the former Chair of the Halifax International Airport Authority and currently a Director on the Board of Nova Leap Health Corp.
For more than three decades, Marie’s commitment to public service, community investment and business leadership has been felt at a local, regional and national level. Prior to her current role, Marie spent ten years as President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC), a Provincial Crown corporation. Under her leadership, the NSGC was recognized as a global leader for innovative responsible gambling programs. She has also held leadership roles with various Government of Nova Scotia departments.
In addition to being an active volunteer, university lecturer, wellness instructor, mentor and business advisor, Marie contributes to countless private, not-for-profit and public sector boards, and is a sought-after expert on the topic of corporate governance practices.
Recognized as one of the top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada, Marie holds the ICD.D designation from the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors along with Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration degrees from Dalhousie University. Marie has also been awarded the Fellow Chartered Accountants designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia and was named Chartered Accountant of the Year in 2008.Meet Jennifer
Jennifer grew up on the South Shore of Nova Scotia in Chester Basin. She holds her Chartered Accountant designation, with over 14 years combined experience in accounting and the financial services industry. Jennifer was drawn towards CUA’s dedication to helping everyday people and small businesses succeed.
In addition to her role as Vice President, Corporate Services at CUA, Jennifer is on the Board of Directors for the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation and is soon retiring from her 12-year tenure as Treasurer with Emmanuel Baptist Church.
You can find Jennifer at the rink during the winter watching her children play hockey, and around a campfire in the summer on camping trips with her family.
Meet Scott
Scott brought his 15 plus years of experience in the financial services industry to the CUA team in 2012.
As Vice President, Member Services, Scott provides leadership to all eight branches, the CUA Commercial Centre, Customer Contact Centre, and CUA Wealth Management Services. Scott’s demonstrated record of effective coaching and strong communication skills lend him to motivate, inspire and engage CUA’s staff team.
Scott enjoys mountain biking, coaching his son’s Bedford basketball team and golfing.

Meet Shaun
Shaun was born and raised in Glace Bay, Cape Breton. With over twenty years' experience in commercial banking, Shaun specializes in franchise banking, international trade, aboriginal banking, knowledge-based industries and real estate financing. He joined the CUA team in 2012.
In his spare time, Shaun gives back to the community through his volunteer with as Treasurer for the Hammonds Plains Community Centre and as President of the Bay Treasure Chest Association.
Shaun lives in Hammonds Plains with his wife, two sons, and Miniature Labradoodle.
Meet Johanna
Johanna is an experienced leader with the ability to drive change and build support.
She is dedicated to providing customized service that meets the unique needs of each CUA member. She is the Branch Manager for the Annex Branch location.
Holding community development close to her heart, Johanna is on the board of the Spryfield Business Commission and a Member of the Rotary Club Northwest in Halifax.
Meet Jacquie
With over 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Jacquie’s leadership style emphasizes mentorship and prioritizes member-impact. Jacquie joined the CUA team in 2022, wanting to work for an organization with deep ties to the community. Since then, the support and collaboration she’s received from the CUA team has been ‘outstanding.’
Originally from Digby, NS, Jacquie grew up in a military family, moving from the east coast to the west coast and back again. Jacquie has now been back in Halifax for 12 years, the longest she’s ever lived in one place.
When not at the Civic Branch, Jacquie can be found with her family, including their two golden retrievers, hiking and swimming.
Meet Myra
With years of experience working in roles from financial planning to managing client care and branch locations throughout Nova Scotia, and coming from a family of bankers, Myra is no stranger to the financial industry.
Myra is passionate about supporting the community and helping others. As the Branch Manager at the Cumberland Drive location, she strives to help members and the CUA team find opportunities to reach their goals. Myra is also on the board of the Canadian Rights and Freedom Centre and Inspiring Hope, an organization that supports individuals with cancer.
If she isn’t at work, you can find Myra walking her dog Oakley or spending time with her daughters. Myra also enjoys cooking and practicing yoga.
Meet Danny
With years of experience in the financial industry, Danny has held various positions in banking, insurance, wealth management and leadership. He joined CUA in 2021, drawn by its member-first approach, which resonated with his own desire to help people understand and take control of their finances.
As the Branch Manager of the Pleasant Street location, the best part of Danny’s role is seeing members reach both their short- and long-term goals.
Originally from Lower Sackville, Danny moved to Halifax in 2011 to be closer to the arts and music scene in the city. When not at work, Danny loves to cook Italian dishes at home and play music. He’s a member of two different bands and has been recording with them since 2014.

Meet Matthew
Matthew lives by the mantra “Be curious, not judgmental,” both in his personal life and at work. As a Spryfield resident with more than six years in the financial industry, he takes pride in living, working, and volunteering in the community he calls home. He loves being able to work with members to better their financial position through making small-scale differences that have a major impact.
Originally from Boston, Matthew has lived in Canada, and Spryfield specifically, since 2015. He is active in the community volunteering with the Halifax Northwest Rotary Club, serving on the board of directors for the Spryfield Business Commission and previously serving as a volunteer GED instructor at the Captain William Spry Public Library.
When not managing the Spryfield Branch, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, participating in book club discussions, and playing board games or disc golf.
Meet Derya
With over 22 years of experience in banking, Derya brings to the CUA Team an accomplished career, demonstrated leadership abilities and expertise in wealth management and accounting.
As the Branch Manager for the Tantallon location, she is passionate about working directly with members to develop a tailored approach for their individual banking needs and ensuring they have peace of mind about their financial wellbeing.
Born and raised in Turkey, Derya has lived in Nova Scotia with her husband and son since 2015.
Meet Ricardo
Ricardo has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry, with 16 years at TD Bank and over 3.5 at an Ontario Credit Union. He also maintained various in-branch leadership roles throughout the years, before bringing his influence and dedication to CUA as Branch Manager of the Wyse Road location.
When relocating to Nova Scotia, Ricardo knew he wanted to continue his career in a credit union and was drawn to CUA by its member-focus approach and Vision, Mission, and Values. He believes in prioritizing member experience, building strong relationships, and taking the time to help with members with their unique financial needs—all while supporting staff through coaching and personal development.
Originally from Portugal, Ricardo moved to Canada when he was five years old, spending most of his life in Toronto, Ontario. He relocated to Nova Scotia with his spouse, two daughters, and Goldendoodle in September 2024 to join CUA after falling in love with the province on a visit the year prior. In his spare time, Ricardo likes to play sports with his kids, go for walks, and spend quality time with his family.
