Spring into New Homeownership Opportunities at CUA

Spring is almost here. Daylight Saving Time arrived last weekend, if you’re like me, I’m sure you are looking forward to some extra hours of sunshine. As we begin to close out winter and start the spring season, I am pleased to share a few pieces of news and updates at CUA. 

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation(CMHC) released its 2026 Housing Market Outlook last month, showing strong growth for the Halifax region in 2025 a stable market in 2026. CMHC noted that affordability remained the biggest challenge for many first-time homebuyers. There has been pent-up demand, and many Nova Scotians have been priced out of the market.  

To help address this issue, last month the Province announced the new First-Time Homebuyers Program. We’re pleased to share that CUA is one of just 14 financial institutions that is partnered with the Government on this initiative. The new Program allows qualified homebuyers to purchase their first home with a minimum 2% down payment, helping homeownership become more attainable in the Province. 

We’re proud to offer another option to help Nova Scotians move into their first home. And if this Program isn’t quite the right fit, CUA has a number of other flexible specialty mortgage products designed to help you manage saving for a down payment and one-time expenses such as legal fees and closing costs. These include our Cashback Mortgage,No Down Payment Mortgage and our Secondary Suite Mortgage. Each of these offers unique benefits that can support your homeownership goals.
