1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?

I was born in Boston and moved to Halifax when I was 6 years old. I grew up in Hammonds Plains/Bedford, I spent almost my entire life in the Halifax area and know the market well.

2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?

I attended SMU for Commerce, worked for BlackBerry for 6 years before getting into banking in 2014. My first role was a Small Business Advisor for 3 years, then 7 years as a Relationship Manager for Business Markets before coming to CUA in June of 2024 as a Commercial Account Manager.

3. What drew you to banking?

I always had an interest in banking. I’m a people person and a long background in customer service and building relationships. I have spent my entire 11-year banking career on the commercial side and really enjoy helping businesses grow. It’s very rewarding to know you are making a difference in the community and there to support business owners when they need it most.

4. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?

Meeting with clients to get to know them and their business, structuring applications, and completing administrative work. My favorite part is meeting with new clients and getting to know them and their business and how I can support them.

5. What is the best part of your job?

The people, I love meeting new business owners and getting to know them and their business and providing them with advice to help grow their business. I also love working in a team environment with a lot of other great Commercial Account Managers who have lots of knowledge in the industry.

6. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

While working at other financial institutions, I didn’t fully realize the incredible impact CUA has on our communities. I am so proud to work for an organization that truly cares about their members and helping them grow.

7. What is your favourite CUA product and why?

I love that we have the Small Business Loan Guarantee Program. It is a great way for businesses to get access to funds as they are looking to start and/or grow and expand their enterprise.

8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

How important your credit score is in life. I wish I fully understood it when I got my first credit card at the age of 19. I think there needs to be more education for our youth on how important it is and how a bad credit score can hold you back as you look to purchase your first car or home.

9. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I have 3 kids who keep me very busy with all their activities. I also coach Baseball and Basketball. But as for my personal hobbies, I love to golf, play softball and play basketball as much as possible.

10. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

This is a tough one, I would have to say at home, I love to make Fajita’s or Fettuccine Alfredo. But If I’m out at a restaurant, I would say a steak or ribs.
