Meet Collin Tyndale

Collin is the branch manager at our Wyse Road Branch. He shares the importance of building trust with members, some savvy financial advice, and his love for sports.

1. Where did you grow up, and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?

I grew up in the beautiful country of Jamaica and relocated to Nova Scotia in late 2019 to experience a new culture, and to pursue personal and professional growth in a new country.

2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?

My undergraduate degree is in Accounting and my professional license is in Insurance, Investments, and Business Banking. I’ve spent my 15 professional years between Auditing, Operations, Administration and Banking in varying roles from Customer Service Advisor, Business Banking, Insurance Advisor, Financial Advisor and Management.

3. What drew you to banking?

I was drawn to banking because of my early financial acumen. I loved numbers and this highly influenced my career choice. I love engaging with people as well, understanding their financial situations and providing thoughtful, personalized advice. This career choice felt like a good match.

4. Since joining CUA, what other positions have you held?

I joined CUA as a Financial Advisor, then became the Branch Manager at Wyse Road earlier this year.

5. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?

A typical workday usually includes a mix of leadership and team management, customer service, administrative duties and business development. My usual workflow is: one-on-one coaching, member engagement, operational/sales review and problem-solving.

6. What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is adding value to the lives of our customers daily. Whether this comes via simply helping them navigate difficult financial times or creating a solid investment portfolio, it all comes down to helping them achieve their financial objectives in the most effective way.

7. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Relationships matter the most to our members.

8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

The simplest financial advice I believe everyone should follow is to always plan for the unexpected. Always protect your assets for the benefit of not just yourself but your loved ones.

9. What is your favourite CUA product and why?

My favourite CUA product, hands down, is our No Down Payment Mortgage. In a challenging economic environment, this product ensures no one is exempt from home ownership. This mortgage makes home ownership more affordable and the dream more achievable.

10. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I’m an absolute sports junkie, particularly with football (soccer) and cricket. I enjoy the outdoors. From travelling, cruising, hiking, chasing waterfalls, or just navigating this beautiful country, I’m always ready for the next adventure.

11. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

I enjoy cooking as much as I enjoy dining out. If I’m home, my favourite meal to cook is ackee and saltfish. If I’m dining out, I can’t resist a good cut medium steak.
