1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?
I grew up in rural New Brunswick and moved to Halifax to be with my husband, who also works for CUA at our South Park Street Branch!
2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?
I hold a high school diploma as well as a diploma from Holland College, PEI in Photography and Digital Imaging.
3. What drew you to banking?
For me, it was the company and not the industry. A friend and former co-worker from a previous career knew I was looking to make a change and had recently come to CUA themselves. They highly recommended working here.
4. Since joining CUA, what other positions have you held?
I’ve only officially held the title of Financial Services Representative but have lent a hand the past few years in the Customer Contact Centre and to our Branch Administrators with some duties.
5. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?
Processing transactions for members over the counter and via the Customer Contact Centre, getting to know them and giving them advice when warranted.
6. What is the best part of your job?
The connections I’ve made not only with members but also with my co-workers, which includes the feeling of truly being a part of the team.
7. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
To always have savings set aside for a “rainy day.” You can’t always predict everything life has to throw at you, and it’s better to be prepared.
8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?
Set up auto-transfers to your savings directly after each pay, even for a small amount. If you budget ahead for this, you won’t even miss those funds. It will help you to quickly and easily build up your savings for incidentals or a goal you’ve set.
9. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?
Photography, art, hiking and adding to my ever-growing Lego collection.
10. Do you perform volunteer or community work (boards, committees, sports, etc.) and if so, what?
I volunteer photography work to promote local talent at music festivals and showcases, including East Coast Music Awards, Canadian Country Music Awards, Music Nova Scotia and New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee.
11. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?
I have a real sweet tooth so I would say any type of dessert!
