1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?

I grew up in Assam, a vibrant state in Northeast India, famous for being the world's largest tea-growing region. I moved to Halifax in August 2024.

2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?

I hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. However, my love for numbers and finance led me to join a public sector bank in India in 2014 after passing the national-level bank exam.  I held various positions in my previous organization, ranging from customer-facing roles to multiple roles in the regional office.

3. What drew you to banking?

I have always been inclined towards jobs which directly create an impact in people’s lives. Plus, a career in the banking sector provides tremendous professional and personal growth. Since I already loved numbers, a banking career looked appealing to me.

4. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?

My day starts with the regular tasks of preparing for the day and taking care of reports.  We have an amazing team at Wyse Road and the conversations that we have in between make everyday tasks interesting. Then, we get busy with members when the branch opens, and the day passes quickly!

5. What is the best part of your job?

The satisfaction that I get after helping our members with their day-to-day banking is unparalleled. The job also gives me the opportunity to interact with people of various cultures and learn new things every day. This has brought about a fulfillment I did not anticipate.

6. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

The most valuable lesson has been through learning about the variety products and services that CUA offers to members. It really opened my eyes to the different opportunities we can provide to help individuals with a diverse range of financial needs.

7. What do you think is a common banking myth people believe?

A common myth is that one must be a high earner to accumulate wealth. But with regular and consistent savings, however small the amount may be, with the power of compound interest, one can still manage to achieve short-term savings goals as well as put enough funds away to fulfill the bigger goals.

8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

A smart financial decision is to start saving right from your first paycheque. So, after a fixed amount is put aside for savings, you can budget the rest of the money and spend it in a disciplined manner. This will not only help in growing your wealth but also goes a long way in reducing financial stress in future.

9. What is your favourite CUA product and why?

My favourite CUA product is Cash Back World Elite Mastercard®. This card offers generous rewards programs in addition to benefits in travel, entertainment, dining and more.

10. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I love to go explore the hiking trails and many waterfalls throughout Nova Scotia on the weekends. When at home, I like to watch thrillers on TV.

11. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

I love to cook a nice wholesome breakfast of puri and chole at home, and my new favourite to order at a restaurant would be a Quesadilla.
