1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?
I grew up in Mumbai, India, a city also referred as the financial capital of India. I moved to Halifax in 2021 because it offered a strong combination of career opportunities, a welcoming community and an excellent quality of life. I was also attracted to the city's coastal environment and vibrant culture.
2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in Accounting, as well as a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and have over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Throughout my career, I have developed expertise across retail banking, commercial banking and operations, which helps me to bring a well-rounded perspective to the organization.
3. What drew you to banking?
II was drawn to a career in banking because of my interest in finance and my aptitude for working with numbers. I also enjoy building relationships with people, understanding their unique financial circumstances, and providing thoughtful, personalized guidance to help them achieve their goals. Banking has been a natural fit, allowing me to combine my analytical skills with my commitment to delivering meaningful client service.
4. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?
A typical workday involves meeting with members to understand their business objectives and develop tailored financial solutions to support their growth. It often involves analyzing financial statements and preparing and assessing credit applications.
5. What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is seeing our business members achieve their financial goals. Contributing to their success and supporting their growth is what makes my work especially fulfilling.
6. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is the importance of actively listening to members and understanding their unique needs. By asking thoughtful, open-ended questions, I am able to gain insight into their priorities and identify solutions that best align with their goals.
7. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?
One of the most important pieces of financial advice I like to share is the importance of establishing a strong financial foundation through a combination of mindful spending, consistent saving and proactive planning. Developing sound financial habits doesn’t have to be complicated, and it can have a lasting impact on long-term financial well-being.
8. What is your favourite CUA product and why?
One of the products I value most at CUA is the strong NS Small Business Loan Guarantee Program. It provides entrepreneurs and business owners with access to the financing they need to launch, grow or expand their businesses. Supporting small businesses in achieving their goals not only strengthens the local economy but also reinforces CUA's commitment to helping members succeed at every stage of their financial journey.
9. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and two children. I am also passionate about sports with a particular interest in playing soccer and cricket. These activities let me stay active and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
10. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?
I don't cook very often, so I usually enjoy ordering takeout. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be almost any Indian chicken dish – I love the rich flavours and variety of spices.
